Having guests in your home should be a time of love, joy, and togetherness. Whether it be for the holidays, a reunion, or another special gathering, the situation can become quite stressful when guests stay overnight in your home. Sometimes your mind tends to distract with sleep accommodations, meal planning, and entertainment. Thus, forgetting to prepare important aspects such as your bathroom for overnight guests.

Designate Which Bathroom Overnight Guests Will Use

It may at first seem rude to instruct guests on which bathroom they may use, but this could not be further from the truth. This is the most important step in the preparation process for overnight guests. How can you prepare any room without first choosing which will be used? Choose the bathroom that will be most convenient for guests to access, and more importantly easiest for you to prepare.

There are several factors to take into consideration when choosing which bathroom to use for guests. This can include the number of guests, any physical limitations of guests (stairs, wheelchair accessible, etc.), where guests will be sleeping, and the amount of preparation that will be required.

Clean the Bathroom

This may seem elementary as we all want to keep a clean home, particularly when guests will be present. But there are many areas we simply forget to clean deeply. Bathrooms can be cleaned with strong chemicals and disinfectants, such as bleach, use them if possible. Wash bathmats, shower curtains, or fabric-based materials in the washing machine that may have been exposed to water. Don’t forget to clean walls, baseboards, and remove and clean faucets and behind fixtures.

Remove Your Personal Items

Do not forget to remove all of your own personal items from the bathroom you will use for guests. This includes your medications, personal hygiene products, or other private items.

Stock the Guest Bathroom with Essentials

After you have selected which bathroom to use, and thoroughly cleaned the area, you must now ensure that your guests have access to all potential items that they may need. The number of supplies you will need will depend on the number of guests in your home, and the length of their stay. Ensure that you have stocked the bathroom with plenty of extra towels, washcloths, soap, toilet paper, and female sanitary items. It is a good idea to put extra toothbrushes, deodorant, and other items a guest may have forgotten. This will help both you, and your guests, avoid any embarrassing or awkward conversation.
